What is Travel Item Swap?
 

Travel Item Swap is a free community where travellers exchange useful items with each other. Instead of buying new gear or leaving things behind, travellers can swap clothing, backpacks, travel accessories, books and small gadgets with others who need them.

 

How does it work?
 

Travellers join the community through our Face Book group. Members simply share what items they have and what they are looking for. When two travellers find a good match, they arrange a convenient time and place to meet and swap in person.

Is Travel Item Swap free?

Yes. Travel Item Swap is completely free to use. The idea is to help travellers pass useful gear forward instead of letting it go to waste.

Do I need to send items by mail?
No. Travel Item Swap focuses on local, in-person exchanges. There is no need to package or ship items.

 

What kind of items can be swapped?

Many different travel items can be exchanged, including:

• clothing and rain jackets

• backpacks and daypacks

• travel adapters and cables

• dry bags and travel accessories

• books and guidebooks

• other useful travel gear

 

What if I don’t have the exact item someone wants?

Swaps don’t always have to be exact matches. The goal is simply to exchange useful items with other travellers and keep gear moving.

Can i give the item without receiving something in return?

Yes, in fact this can happen quite organically when travelling, but with T.I.S you can connect with a traveller who might actually need it rather than leaving it on a shelf to gather dust.

How do I join the community?

Simply click onto our Facebook page and join the group. Once there start posting your item.

 

Can I use Travel Item Swap if I’m not currently travelling?

Yes. Many people swap items before or after a trip. If you have travel gear at home that you no longer need, you can pass it on to another traveller and receive something useful for your next adventure.

 

What happens if I don’t find a swap?
 

Not every item will immediately find a match, but as the community grows more travellers will be sharing items regularly.

 

How do travellers contact each other?

Members connect through the Face Book community group and then arrange the details of the swap through private messages.

 

Safety

 

Is it safe to meet other travellers to swap items?

We encourage members to arrange swaps in public places such as cafés, hostels, or busy areas. Always trust your judgement and report any inappropriate behaviour to the community admins.
